Ohio Swim’s Aquatic Philosophy is based on a 5 level progression that is designed to help swimmers develop their water safety awareness, survival, and swimming skills. Lesson structures are designed to give participants a positive and engaging swimming experience.

 

Level 1

 

In this level swimmers will be introduced to swimming for the first time. The main focus for this level is to develop comfort for the participants in the swimming pool. In order for the swimmer to progress to the next level, these task must be completed

 

– FRONT FLOAT WITH BUBBLES – FREESTYLE KICKS WITH KNEES SLIGHTLY BENT – INDEPENDENT BACKFLOAT

 

Level 2

 

In this level, with the swimmer feeling familiar with the water. The swimmer will begin to learn the fundamentals of swimming as well as pool safety. At the completion of Level 2 swimmers will be able to achieve the following.

 

– BODY IN A STRAIGHT STREAMLINE POSITION, FACE IN WATER WITH EAR BETWEEN ARMS AND BLOWING BUBBLES 

– FREESTYLE KICK WITH KNEE STRAIGHT, KICK FROM HIPS 

– DOLPHIN KICK INITIATED FROM HIPS 

– BREASTSTROKE KICK 

– FEET TURNED OUT 

– ALTERNATING ARM PULLS 

– ALTERNATING ARM PULLS WITH ARMS MOVING AT THE SAME TIME WITH ONE PULLING AND THE OTHER RECOVERING

 

Level 3

 

In this level with the swimmer acquainted with basic swimming skills. Swimmers will begin systematic stroke training. At the completion of level 3 swimmers will be a belt to complete the following :

 

– Freestyle : 

– FREESTYLE KICK WITH TOES POINTED AND LEGS EXTENDED 

– STRAIGHT ARM PULLS WITH SLIGHTLY BENT ELBOW 

– BODY IN STREAMLINE AND HORIZONTAL TO THE SURFACE 

– STREAMLINE MAINTAINED DURING BREATHING 

– Backstroke : 

– BODY IN STREAMLINE THROUGHOUT STOKE 

– ARMS STRAIGHT AND ALTERNATE THROUGHOUT STROKE 

– LEGS EXTENDED WITH SLIGHT KNEE BEND AND WITH TOES POINTED

 

Level 4

 

In level 4 Swimmers will be introduced to more advanced strokes and refine previously taught strokes.

– Breaststroke : 

– KICK WITH FEET FLEXED , KNEES NO WIDER THAN HIP WIDTH APART WHEN BENT. 

– ARM PULL WHILE KICKING 

– BREATH DURING ARM PULL 

– Butterfly 

– ARMS BEND AS PUSH BACKWARD UNDERWATER 

– TWO KICK PER STROKE 

– BREATHING AND KICKS OCCUR AT CORRECT TIME

 

Level 5

 

This level is for swimmers who are ready to advance their swimming skills to the next level. In level 5 your swimmer will enhance freestyle and backstroke while continuing to learn butterfly and breaststroke.

– Freestyle 

– BODY IN STREAMLINE AND HORIZONTAL TO THE SURFACE ; BODY IS A FLUID MOTION WITH HEAD, TRUNK AND LEGS ALIGNED 

– ARM BENT AT ELBOW AD PUSHES ALONG THE SIDE OF BODY DURING THE PULL

– ARM EXTEND AND ENTER WATER ABOVE HEAD 

– KICK WITH KNEE STRAIGHT AND INITIATED FROM THE HIP 

– Backstroke 

– BODY IN STREAMLINE THROUGHOUT STROKE 

-ARMS STRAIGHT DURING RECOVERY AND BENT IN WATER 

– ARM PULLS INITIATED WITH SHOULDERS 

– CONTINUOUSLY KICKING WITH LEGS EXTENDED 

– Breaststroke 

– PULL, BREATH, KICK AND GLIDE SEQUENCE 

– KICK WITH FLEXED FEET AND BELOW WATER LEVEL 

– Butterfly 

– ARM PULL BEND AS ARM ENTERS THE WATER 

– TWO KICK PER STROKE 

– KICK , KICK , PULL, BREATH SEQUENCE
